Environmental impact

In 2019, our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions were 480 tons of CO2e. Scope 1 refers to direct emissions from the organization (heating and cars) and Scope 2 emissions are from electricity that CarpetVista purchases from utility companies.

To limit the waste, generated in our facilities, we have installed waste stations, so employees properly sort trash and recycling and we urge our employees on zero-waste initiatives. In our own facilities, our water footprint is relatively small and mostly comes from basic functions like sinks, dishwashers and toilets. However, we know that our greatest environmental impact comes from the transportation of goods. Therefore, to reduce our transportation footprint, we are increasing the use of sea cargo for inbound shipping, minimizing the need for trucks. Outbound goods are mainly made by trucks and to over sea markets by air freight. We will begin to measure our Scope 3 emissions in 2020.

Our Code of Conduct contains certain rules for water, air and chemicals. Our suppliers are expected to assess significant environmental impact of operations and establish effective policies and procedures that reflect their environmental responsibility. They will see to implement adequate measures to prevent or minimize adverse effects on the community, natural resources and the overall environment.

Water consumption in the production of yarn is an area where we will work closely together with our suppliers and their sub-suppliers to reduce water use and to minimize the environmental impact of water pollution. Our largest sub-supplier of natural yarn has a closed water treatment system and works according to Stockholm Textile Water Initiatives (STWI) criteria to reduce the water consumption in its production.
